Motivations Behind the Damaged Goods Series

Hey y'all! So glad you're here.

As I mentioned in my introduction post, I'm starting a five part ebook series. It will be titled The Damaged Goods Series and I plan to have the first installment published on Amazon by the end of the year (fingers crossed). So today I wanted to give y'all a brief synopsis of the series as well as some of my motivations behind writing it.

Series Overview

The series is made up of five different books, each of which chronologically covers various time periods of the main character and protagonist, Azra. The first book is titled Untouched and this is where we are introduced to Azra and one of the main antagonist Juwuan. It serves mostly as a prolonged exposition, but it establishes some of the overarching internal conflicts that she will battle throughout the series. The next book is titled Sweet Sixteen and this is where most of Azra's character development really starts. In an attempt to find love, she meets a lot of new people who steer her towards a life of shame, disgust, and self hate. The third book, Sunken, is the nadir of Azra's plight and she attempts suicide. Her attempt fails and she is left in a pit of despair and sadness. She then meets Jamal in the fourth book titled The Don and he appears to be her Prince Charming as he is able to release her from the curse on her life. But she soon learns everything that glitters isn't gold. In the final installment, titled Twentysomething, she's back at square one and has to learn the importance of self love and forgiveness.

A lot of the things I'll be talking about in the book I have experienced myself. This series is will actually be a fictionalized memoir of some sorts. How much will be real or made up, only I will know. I've felt like I had a story to tell for a long time and I just wanted to be able to share it with whoever would listen. I don't know who will read my books, if anyone at all, but I will still write them as a means of therapy to myself. I will use this series to facilitate and continue my emotional and mental healing from my personal traumas. But one of my greatest inspirations of all is that I've wanted to be an author for as long as I can remember. One Christmas, my mom bought me a Little Golden Book that was blank. I wrote and illustrated my first book: it was a story about rabbits. Do I remember the actually plot? Hell no, I was six years old, but the memory and the feeling of satisfaction stayed with me even up until now. I attempted writing a book in middle school, but through a chain of events similar to what Azra faced, I lost my drive and never completed it. So this is my second chance at one of my life long dreams, as well as a major goal to myself.

Anticipations

My plans are to finish, edit, and self-publish the first book Untouched on Amazon in late December of this year. Since it will be on Amazon, I will probably charge about $2.99 per copy so please support me (am I worth less than a number one from Chick-Fil-A). And for those who say I'm not worth the $3, you better be subscribed to my Youtube channel because I'm thinking of doing a giveaway for some loyal subscribers. You can also subscribe to the blog to be on the lookout for my drop dates. It is a possibility that I would start the series anticlimactic, but want to be able to fully develop my characters and maintain the suspense. It will be me writing this, by myself, so I will definitely be taking suggestions on any and everything. I hope my overview was enough to get you to want to read and if not be prepared for me to periodically drop juicy excerpts from the book (rated r of course).

Remember: forgive yourself first! You are allowed to be a work of art and work in progress at the same time!

So after months and months of thinking about starting a blog, I've finally done it and I'm glad you're here to witness it. But first, let me briefly introduce myself. My name is Alexis Gant. I'm 20 years old from Jacksonville, Florida and am currently a junior at Florida State University double majoring in criminology and interdisciplinary social sciences with a concentration in sociology and anthropology (sounds like a lot but it's really not). I am a mother to two beautiful girls, Heaven and Malia. I'm pretty much a loner even though I live for social interaction (probably cause I'm on some different wavelengths). I am passionate about education and the criminal justice system and hope to one day become a defense attorney. I believe in love and s...

Winter Arc 2024: The Mommy Mogul Rebrand

Welcome back to the blog cousins! First, I want to offer you a scripture, Romans 12:2 "Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think." I have a saying, "Your thoughts become your words. Your words become your actions. Your actions become your reality." Maybe it's not my saying, but it's something that I say and shares the sentiment of Romans 12:2. You can change your life by changing your thoughts. That brings me to the topic of today's blog post. Where am I writing from you ask, my JOB, which I hope to only have for a week longer. What I told you last time, the best thing a job can do for me is what? OKAY! Our completed habit tracker Today, I want to share a challenge that my twin best friends and I are embarking on together. We saw it on TikTok and immediately hopped on the idea. Titled The Winter Arc , the challenge required each of us to pick three pillars where we wanted to create different habits. We then had to identify thr...

The Message of Amos 9:13: Change is Here

Welcome back, family! I'm so glad to be back writing for y'all. Forgive me in advance, because I admit, I feel a bit all over the place and writing always helps me ground myself.  So, this morning, I was following my regular routine. Wake and garden (iykyk), scroll on social media, pack lunches, and start my day hopefully in a positive direction.  I don't know if I told y'all, but I've been tapping into my spiritual gifts more, one of which is clairaudience. Let's hold onto that for a bit. Back to my morning routine, which needs major revision, but I digress. As I'm scrolling, I keep seeing Amos 9:13. I mean KEEP seeing it, from Twitter to TikTok. I saw about 3 videos, made on different dates, with the same message: "It's going to happen faster than you thought." I won't need months or even weeks. The change in my life I'm seeking is happening now. It's been happening for months - probably years.  Now, I don't claim to be holier...
